Description
The Black Jesus EP is the 2020 release where the work turned personal. Five tracks. The room got quieter and the writing got closer to the bone.
I made the EP on Dope Coffee Music, the label I run with my cousin Stace. The references are all home: Tribble Hall is the Wake Forest dorm where I cut my first record in 2005. The Marine years are in here too, and so is the Black Church of Christ I came up in back in Winston-Salem, the same hometown that raised 9th Wonder. Faith, war, school, and the corner all show up on the same side of the tape.
Tracklist
- Breakout
- Tribble Hall
- Poppin
- Black Man
- Black Jesus
“Tribble Hall” is the dorm record. “Black Man” is the one that says the quiet part out loud. “Black Jesus” is the title track and the thesis. This is the kind of EP that earns the right to be called Volume One of the next chapter.
Limited physical run on the Dope Coffee Music imprint.
